| 17th at Harbor Town Golf Club |
The inaugural event – played over a challenging digital landscape of the Pete Dye-designed 185-yard par-3 seventeenth hole at Harbor Town GC in South Carolina – witnessed Leeds Golf Centre member, Humza Rafique, taking victory with a stunning shot to just 6 feet. The next best effort was 30 feet away – proving how difficult the hole plays in real life.
Speaking of the light-hearted new tournament format and the simulator’s merits, Leeds Golf Centre Academy Manager and Head Professional, Andy Herridge, commented: “Our TruSim simulator really is the remedy for those who despise winter golf – the sense of visual realism is certainly impressive but it is the accuracy of ball flight that surprises most first-time users. As for the competition itself, it’s just great fun – and very much in keeping with our ambition to be ‘the Home of Modern Golf’.”
Hosted in the swing studios – where players hit shots off a mat in the normal way but at a projection screen – the simulator allows play on 64 courses from around the world including Royal Melbourne, Loch Lomond, Firestone Golf & Country Club, Pebble Beach, Old Course St Andrews, Kiawah Island, Gleneagles, Valderrama and the Brabazon at The Belfry amongst others.
